Catching Up

Let us get a table, then
We're stuck here without much to do.
Let's wait in here while it rains;
You can learn me, and I can learn you.

You're twenty five, I'm thirty two
And it's a fine day, with rain and all.
We could leave, but I'd rather stay
And write our names on that yellow wall.

So it's done, then; let us have
With the wine, some fried meat
The weather's cold, the shop is old;
Stuck for ages beside this ageing street.

So, then, dear, tell me now,
How has life and such been with you.
As for myself, I think I'm done
With my work, I'm really through.

Last when I left the city,
They were making roads and building things.
You know, shops and malls and subway lines
And castles for the little kings.

Life hasn't been kind to you?
But I thought you said you liked it there
That was many years ago, but
I know things can get harsh and unfair.

Anyway, the food is good, and I think
I like the weather too.
The coolth is nice, and I think I should
Have some more wine, and so should you.

All the same, it's getting dark;
I think I still know where you stay.
After this let's walk back home;
I'll walk you down some of the way.
